You Can Be Your Best Fitness Partner

Everybody needs encouragement at times. There are not many times that this is more true than when undertaking the task of becoming fit. Chances are it took a lot of years to get to the place where a body transplant seems reasonable. Looking in the mirror feels sickening and uncomfortable for people who are unhappy with their current state of fitness. Some people avoid mirrors, and dread having their picture taken. You know it’s bad when people are so aware of another’s poor self image, that they don’t even bother trying to take a picture of that person anymore. They already know the reaction will not be favorable, and could even be, downright dangerous.

This place of self hate is ground zero. It is where everything else comes from. Self hate distorts and corrupts, everything we do. Once an individual becomes fully aware of how awful they have been feeling, and accept that they are the only ones who can change it, they begin a journey. This journey leads people back to who they used to be. It is really surprising for some, to learn how far they had wondered away from their true selves, and happiness.

Like most journeys, the road can get bumpy. People can get wary, and sometimes even feel a little lost. That is why, like on any well prepared for trip, it’s good to have a friend come along for the ride. The best friend, anybody can have, is themselves. In case this has never been thought of as an option, now is a great time to discover everything there is to gain, by being our own best friend. There is nobody else in the world that we can expect to be able, to be there for us, all the time, rain or shine.

HOW TO DO IT: Begin by looking at yourself as you would a best friend or child, with love, patience, and kindness. You would never think to kick a friend when he or she is down, so don’t do it to yourself. Encourage yourself freely and often, when you sense that feeling of doubt or weakness creeping in. Take extreme delight in all of your accomplishments, big and small. When thinking about how a particular day went, focus on what you did right and how good it felt, instead of replaying any negative scenes over and over in your head. Remind yourself of all the good things about you, happening right now, and put the spotlight on them whenever possible. Let other people give you compliments. Accept the positive words and believe them. Practice being reliable, dependable, and trustworthy to yourself, for yourself, all the time.

Becoming your strongest ally will guarantee your success in getting fit. The way you see yourself has been the single biggest influence in your life, even if you were not aware of it. Having the power to say positive things to ourselves is a goldmine that we have access to every second of our lives. When we use it to accomplish something for ourselves it is unbeatable.
